President Police Medal for Meritorious Service awarded to 21 BSF Officers and Personnel

The President Police Medal for Meritorious Service was conferred upon 10 serving and 11 retired members of the Border Security Force (BSF) in Kolkata today.

Awarded on this occassion by Dr C V Ananda Bose, Governor, West Bengal, this medal honours members of State Police forces and Central Police and security organisations who have performed service of conscious merit and displayed high levels of devotion to their duty.

Speaking at the event, the Governor mentioned that it wasn’t just the excellence of the 21 awardees being celebrated in the day’s ceremony, but rather the core values of the nation’s security forces and the sacrifices of their members. Himself having a career bureaucrat with a distinguished history of public service, Dr Ananda Bose highlighted the importance of BSF’s role in upholding the nation’s safety both during peacetime and war. Also present were Shri Rajiv Ranjan Lal, Inspector General (Human Resource), BSF Eastern Command, and Shri Bupender Singh, Inspector General, South Bengal Frontier, BSF.

Formed in the wake of 1965’s Indo-Pak war, BSF today essays a diverse range of roles from border security and policing to the counter-insurgency and aiding the army in its military roles. The largest border security organisation in the world with over 2,50,000 personnel, BSF has made significant contributions to our nation’s defence from the war of 1971 up to Operation Sindoor.
