RETRONOMIC RISE: XBS Ready to Ignite ‘Retroverse’ at Xaviesta 4.0
As the January chill settles over the city, the heat is rising at St. Xavier’s University. The New Town campus is bracing itself for a high-octane blend of 90s nostalgia and 21st-century corporate grit as the Xavier Business School (XBS) kicks off its annual flagship extravaganza, Xaviesta 4.0, on January 9 and 10. This year’s theme, ‘Welcome to the Retroverse,’ promises a neon-soaked journey back in time, but the competition remains firmly rooted in the future.
Now in its fourth edition, the festival has rapidly evolved into one of the city’s most prestigious student-led business summits. The stakes are higher than ever, with over 60 premier institutions, including heavyweights like IIM Calcutta, IIT Kharagpur, IIM Ranchi, IIM Rohtak, and NMIMS Mumbai, set to descend upon the campus. At the heart of the fest are nine core business events covering the spectrum of Finance, Marketing, and Human Resources. For the participants, this isn’t just an academic exercise; with a total prize pool of ₹1.67 lakh and a panel of judges comprising industry titans, the pressure to perform is palpable.

It is not all spreadsheets and strategies, however. Keeping pace with modern trends, the festival features a high-stakes FIFA E-sports tournament. Additionally, five cultural competitions will see future managers swapping their blazers for dancing shoes and microphones, showcasing talent in music, dance, and drama.
The event will be inaugurated under the guidance of Vice-Chancellor Rev. Fr. Dr. John Felix Raj and Dean Dr. Sitangshu Khatua. The inaugural ceremony will be graced by Anirban Banerjee, CMD of Eveready Industries India Ltd, as the Chief Guest. The valedictory session on the following day will feature Bhaskar Sengupta, DGM (Sales) at Vivo, adding further corporate weight to the proceedings.

When the debating ends, the party begins. The evenings are reserved for pure entertainment, designed to provide a much-needed respite from the day’s intellectual rigour. Popular live band TRAP is slated to set the stage on fire on the opening night, while the grand finale on January 10 will feature the soul-stirring notes of ‘Bolly Sufi,’ followed by an electric set by DJ Koel to bring the curtains down. As New Town prepares for this two-day marathon of intellect and art, Xaviesta 4.0 stands as a testament to the spirit of “Nihil Ultra”—Nothing Beyond.
